We're hanging out in a little bar in Trat with a huge aquarium including kissing fish right now, I tried hard to get pictures of the fish making out until the batteries ran out, to no avail. So far we're liking it here, although the locals do stare and we hear the word "farang" (sometimes just refers to a westerner, but often in a negative way) from many people. We went to a nice waterfall, the day market and the night market today, we've been busy. It's nice that it's not too touristy here so all the prices are better, although we hardly buy anything cause we don't want to carry it around. We leave the day after tomorrow but Jade's threatening leaving in the morning, we've been kept up at night by the most annoying bird on the face of the earth, Jade and I have vowed to kill this thing with our bare hands if we ever run into it. So Damien will accompany us to Hat Lek, where we cross into Cambodia, and then on to Shinoukville (not sure of the spelling if anyone's actually looking it up. By the way, we are trying to figure out somehow to put a link to a map up so you can see where we are but you'll have to be patient cause it's not easy. So, hopefully next time we write we can include some beautiful pictures of all the temples in Cambodia....... until then. Carla
P.S. We never got your e-mail Tyler so you're the bitch!!!! If you want to write us it's carlaskuce@hotmail.com and urcoull@hotmail.com

Last night on Ko Chang

Hello,

Carla and I are still here on KoChang with Damien and Jade in tow. Rained like razy all last night and all mornig, and I was sure our raised bungalow was going to wash away, as we are right on the water. We were suposed to go on a four island snorkelling tour, but no such luck with the weather. Oh well, as soon as the sky cleared we headed out elephant trecking in the jungle. Walked thru a river as well. Not that it had much water. It is dry season here (really its not suposed to rain at all) and so many of the rivers and waterfalls are dry. Too bad, because that is the draw of this National Park Island, the natural sights and rainforest. Oh well. Gorgeous here anyhow.

So tomorrow am we are heading back to the mainland to Trat, where we will stay for a couple of days. It sounds like a less touristy place than the islands, which will be nice and has some gorgeous beaches all along the coast. We will do some snorkelling there for sure. So our plan is to stay in Thailand untill our Visas run aout, the 2nd of March and then off to Cambodia. So excited! I have been reading about it for a couple days now, I can't wait.

later. R.

Ko Chang, Thailand

Hello all! So happy to see all the feedback on the blog.

Carla and I are still on Ko Chang. Still lying on the beach all day and "swimming", ie, sitting in the water as it is not very deep, until you are swimming with the fish, so we stick to the beach. Damien and Jade from Bowen have tracked us down. They arrived on our doorstep yesterday morning. We went to Bang Bao beach and to the fishing village for a great meal of prawns and crab, delicious and messy. Spent the evening introducing them to our new friends and singing and playing the guitar. A nice night. Then to the treehouse bar.

It is so cool here where we are staying. Totally built over the water. I am getting used to the bucket shower and squater, altho still wish they were in seperate rooms, or the walls were higher between the stalls. Very hippie spot here. My only complain is that the laundry lost three of my tops, with no hope of finding them. I have put up "missing" posters...hopefully someone will return them. Kinda nice to have our clothes washed for us tho. Seems the easiest and cheapst way to do it around here.

Another gorgeous day here on Ko Chang. Can't really complain when you are surrounded by good friends in paradise. Miss you all!

check the link: feels like 45C here...yikes!

Loungin' on Lonely Beach

Hey everybody, I'm still alive and kickin'. Well, not really kickin' so much, we are in probably the most laid back place in the world. We're staying at the Treehouse now where we have a cute little bamboo hut with bunk beds, but we both sleep on the top bunk cause we're a little traumatized from the cockroach we met at our last place and refuse to sleep on the floor. The restaurant has the best food we've tried so far, with tons of hammocks and cushions everywhere, we probably spent at least six hours in that place yesterday, reading, eating, napping and drinking a few "Happy Shakes". It may be a little too relaxed here, if our Visa's weren't going to run out I'm not sure we'd ever leave.

We got a hold of Jade and Damien the other day and they're coming to meet us in a few days, very exciting. Then we're off again to tour Cambodia, should be an experience. Love and miss you all. Till next time, Carla

On Ko Chang

So here we are after a full days travel and an overnight train to Bkk, which was pretty comfortable. The whole thing converts into beds and we hung our laundry everywhere...wasn't yet dry. Not sure if it was alright, but no complaints. So spent two nights in Bkk, and sent Jeff off home to Vancouver. Miss the guy already....who will kill all the bugs?? No really, we had a great time with Jeff. I feel we were quite spoiled travelling with him and getting a good intro to Thailand before being sent out on our own. We miss you Jeff!!

Now we are on Ko Chang, another Thai island, staying on Lonely Beach (Siam) looking for some peace and quiet. Spent the last three days hanging out with the local boys, some Aussie's and a few Thai's on vacation. Our newest chaperones: Noy and Crazy took us to the waterfalls yesterday. We swam and layed on the rocks, and got a free tour of the island by way of motorbike, watched a cockfight, and baought a 5 Liter Jug of Moonshine (80%) for 160 B (about 4$ CAN, from a couple elderly women with huge smiles. I learnt to drivethe bike as well, which was sooo fun. Carla looked a bit nervous, but enjoyed the ride. Then Noy made us a great dinner at his hut, and tried to convince us to get bamboo tatoos (he is an artist) we will see.

Today we are moving to Whitesand Beach, to get back into the action, and hopefully meet up with a couple Bowen friend, Damien and Jade for a few days. But first I have to get Carla out of bed!

till next time, R

More pics of gorgeous Thailand!!!

Sunset on Koh Tao...my favorite island yet, although they are all pretty gereat. Hiked to a private beach (where we found Santa Claus on vacation...by the way), and back. So nice!
Gaerath, Lara, me, Jeff and Carla at sunset.

On Ko Tao (turtle island), they breed and release turtle on the beach....so cute!!!!!

Ko Tao Underwater Festival

A few pics. Carla and I counting down the buckets....We made it to three, Jeff on the otherhand made it to two and then passed out for an hour in the middle of the festival. He claims he is "borderline narcoleptic"...sure Jeff, sure. Luckily I protected him, while hanging out with my new Aussie friend, 1986. And Magnus, ie drunk guy lying on the ground (other than Jeff). Met him at Buddha Bay, our hotel. Would probably forget his name if it wasn't tattooed on his foot. He was traveling with four Swedish girls...who couldn't wait to get rid of him at times. We never quite broke them either. Ahh and the Mr Dive Shop competition. gotta luv half naked men dancing on the stage...Ballet that is.

Sitting atop the huge turtle on Ko Tao (Turtle Island) getting ready for the Underwater festival. Which was pretty much a huge reggea party on the ebach with food bands, and a Mr Dive Shop competition..luv it!@ till about 7 in the morning.

Back in Bangkok

Ok guys, I'm gonna try with the pics again...wish me luck!

This is the actual size of Jeff's room in Bangkok...and yes I'm touching both walls. Bargain price of 200Bhat tho!

On our super disco overnight bus to Ko Tao. Kareoke and all! This was a very long night, took caught a boat at about 5:30am after the bus and arrived on Koh Tao to heavy construction in front of our room. Such a gorgeous island tho. My favorite so far.

In Ko Tao, heading to Mango Bay where Jeff and Geareth are going scuba diving, and Carla, Lara and I will be snorkeling. So much fun! The fish got a bit close, aparently they are often fed by the divers, but I got brave eventually and loved it in the end.

Our first day in Bangkok. Too hot to do anything but chill at an 'Irish Pub', and catch up with Jeff.

Koh Phangan: Full Moon Party

Hello all,

Sorry for the dellay in posts lately. We are working on a tight budget, and it seems the net is much more pricey on the islands. We are getting ready for our fourth night on Koh Phangan island in Thailand. Crazy place. Full of people gathered from all over to party under the full moon, the party is officially tomorrow night, but we have been at it for 5 days now.

Pretty much just a crazy party on the beach, with various clubs and every store and stand sells buckets of Samsom, Thai Rum with pop and redbull, mixed in a bucket and served with as many straws as you require. Pretty damn addictive. Although the sand tends to sneak in if you're not careful, but hey whats a little dirt.

We are living in luxury this week, and paying for it. Hot shower and aircon that works sporadically. Expensive island, but everywhere is full. Jeff is not quite sick of sharing a room with two girls yet, although I imagine he will be relieved if he ever gets privacy again.

So we are getting decked in blacklighyt paint and heading to the beack tonight for another great dance party. Its like greatest hits on repeat. Awesome. Balf: you'd love it! We leave in two days for Bangkok again, to send Jeff off...unless we can convince him otherwise. And then to Cambodia.

Will post pics soon....kidding here they are!!

On the Road Again

So I hope you all realized that it's not cause I'm shy that I don't write, it's because I'm lazy, seriously have any of you ever gotten an e-mail from me? Anyways, we head to Ko Pan Yang tomorrow for our first full moon party- very exciting.
Just got back from a sunset walk to another end of the island, Jeff got us a little lost and we ended up on quite the trek but it was worth it in the end. We took it pretty easy today since last night was the last night of a festival going on here where they tried but failed to break the world record for the most people scuba diving at the same time, luckily nobody felt bad enough about to ruin the party. They had a Mr.Dive charity auction and some really good bands, the Thai Ska band was our favorite. And Geeritt- you'd never guess, they had German sausage available at the festival, not just Thai food around here.
Sorry for the short post but I'm hungry so hopefully somebody can let Jade and Damien know where we'll be (on Ko Pan Yang till at least the 15th) and to come meet us if they can. Thanks. Love and miss you all, hugs and kisses....Carla

PS

Don't be shy... post your name as a visitor, so we know who's sending us comments... xx

Another sunny afternoon....

Another gorgeous ay here on Koh Tao island. Carla and I both seperately managed to get a bit too much sun yesterday, and are exhausted by the heat here today....man do i miss air-conditioning. So last night was relatively calm we hung out and watched Old School while eating dinner with our Lara and Gareth, a nice couple from Liverpool. Gareth and Jeff are doing ther first ocean dive today, and we are planning to tag along on the boat and do a bit of snorkelling. It is suposed to be a lovely spot.

I swam yesterday in the ocean for hours, by myself (for all those of you who know i never swim alone: cured!), and had a wonderful relaxing afternoon. Had drinks with Vicky, an Aussie who just arrived on the island yeaterday, and Lara, and ate mexican for lunch (such a tourist spot). The atmosphere here is so relaxed because it is so hot that lounging in the shade is a huge part of our day.

Anyways, we are off to catch our boat, and see some fish...Jeff is hoping for a black tipped reef shark, I can't say I have the same thought.

Keep the emails, and comments coming, we'd love to hear from you all!

Koh Tao, Thailand

So here I am looking out onto the clear blue ocean that goes for miles in a small hut with nothing but a couple computers. Carla and I arrived in Bangkok late at night, and our saviour JeffA booked us a hostel in the middle of Ko San Ro, backpackers paradise. We got settled and went out on the town right away. Hit a couple bars and had some pad thai for dinner from a street cart. The beer come in littre bottles and is 7.7%...and about 75 cents...I love this place! So cheap! We took a tuk tuk ride with Jeff and Angus to another neighborhood. Almost died on the way. Those drivers are crazy. Did a wheelie in the three wheeled cart, and held on for dear life. They all try to get you with a 5 bhat tuk tuk ride, which ends up touring you to every tailor and factory in town...no thank you!

Took the overnight bus the next day and then ferry to Koh Tao, where we are now. It is soo beautiful here. Just like I imagined. The people are warm and friendly and we are picking up as much of the language as we can...which honestly is not much. Jeff and Carla are starting their PADI course today, and so I will work on my tan....not a bad deal. I tried the scuba thing, and it just didn't happen maybe next month.

We head to a neighboring island Ko Pan Yang in about 5 days maybe for our first full moon party. Should be great. And I promise to get some pics up as soon as I figure out how.

i hope you all get out here some day...it is so worth it.

Layover in Taipei

It's 11:32am and Carla and I are going on 4 hours of excitement stuck in the Taipei airport, looking out into the sunny landscape, desperate for a breath of fresh air. Oh well, another 3 hours here, and we get on our flight to Bangkok. Should be there by about 4:30 pm local time. Tried to get on an earlier flight, but of course, no luck there.

The flight was long, but I do recomend China Airlines for its entertainment system. I could get used to flying with my own personal tv in the headrest in front of me. We got to choose any new movies, music, ect. And the best part: they have a camera infront and below the plane, so you can watch an arial view of the ground a you land. Super cool! Woke Carla up for that one.

So not much going on in this little airport. Tons of alcohol and perfume to sample at all the duty free shops, and too many sales people to count. We caved and forked over 8$USD a piece for a bowl of noodles, after being so hungry. Good eats, although it will take some bravery and time to get used to all the exotic veggies.

We've found our hostel in BKK, and are hoping we can survive our first day there withought getting ripped off...not very likely it seems.

We will try to post some photos in the next couple of days.

I can't wait to get out of this airport and lie on the beach....we are way too pale to not look like nubies.

ps Carla says 'hi'. I am assuming one of these days she will stop being shy and type something herself. hehe
